Is it helpful to stop repetitive behavior in autistic people?

Understanding the purpose of the child behind engaging in repetitive behaviour is key. It is not advisable to stop an autistic child from engaging in their behaviour. Instead, attempts should be made to modify the actions to turn them into a form of play. Attention needs to be paid to the underlying reason behind the behaviour to deal with the problem correctly instead of preventing the child from acting that way.
